What’s your next adventure going to be?

Blessed with awe-inspiring natural wonders, an abundance of wildlife, huge water bodies and vast open spaces, Zambia offers unforgettable holidays exploring the real Africa. Acknowledged as one of the safest countries in the world to visit, Zambia's welcoming people live in peace and harmony. And here, in the warm heart of Africa, you will find some of the finest Safari experiences on the planet, including face to face encounters with Nature at its wildest. This action packed 10 Day adventure takes you into the heart of wild walking Safaris in South Luangwa National Park.

After an overnight stay at Ciêla Resort And Spa, the Safari begins with a flight into Mfuwe Airport, where you will be met by your guide and a vehicle, which will take you to the first camp you will stay at on your safari.  Tafika Camp’s location on the east bank of the Luangwa River, north of the Nsefu Sector of the South Luangwa Park, makes it ideal for those who enjoy the serenity of the bush.  South Luangwa is 9,060 km2 (3,500 mi2) in size and has incredibly diverse landscapes ranging from dense forests of mopane, ebony and sausage trees to wide open savanna punctuated only by the occasional lonely baobab - all hugged by the wide and winding Luangwa River. The river is the most intact major river system in Africa and the lifeblood of this park. The now famous “walking safari” originated here and is still one of the finest ways to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness firsthand. The changing seasons add to the park’s richness, from dry bushveld in the winter to lush wonderland in the summer months.

60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species live in South Luangwa National Park.
Aptly named the Valley of the Leopard, it is widely considered one of the best places in Southern Africa to look for these elusive cats. With an estimated 50 hippos per kilometer of the Luangwa River, it's a very popular destination for them too.  Located on the west bank in the South Luangwa National Park, a few kilometres upstream from parent camp Tafika, Chikoko and Big Lagoon are only accessible on foot and offer unparalleled walking safaris – being immersed in the idyll of remotest Africa. On foot, the minutiae of the bush come to the fore: the smells; the essence of the macro world and a sense of timelessness.

The walks follow well-worn elephant and hippo trails, not to mention the original footsteps of David Livingstone, through the Luangwa Valley. Here guests tread through the African bush alongside the wildlife whilst accompanied by an experienced guide, an armed National Park scout and a tea bearer. It is an experience that is liberating and unforgettable.

Each intimate camp offers accommodation for a maximum of six guests in refreshingly simple, grass-walled chalets with en suite flush toilets and showers. Hot water is provided for evening showers and upon request.

All luggage and supplies are transported by porters, enabling guests to relax and enjoy their walking safari with just their water bottle, binoculars and camera in hand. To make the most of the walking safari adventure it is suggested that guests spend two to three nights at each camp. Chikoko Tree Camp is situated 8km upstream from Tafika. Here three chalets are raised above the ground ensuring that they sit, rather romantically, within the surrounding tree canopies. The ground floor is the bathroom area and stairs alongside the chalet lead up to the bedroom area on the raised platform.  The Chikoko Tree Camp's uniquely raised en-suite chalets enhance the views of the spectacular surrounding acacia grove, the array of wildlife that frequent it and the associated wildlife activity that unfolds throughout the day. Mwaleshi Camp, located in the vast wilderness of North Luangwa National Park, is a 40 minute flight from Mfuwe Airport. Hidden within a scenic bend of the Mwaleshi River 10km upstream of the confluence with the Luangwa River, the camp is a truly special and remarkable place. There are few roads in this remote area and the majority of activities are done on foot, following existing animal trails.
