PAGE 1: ABOUT US

WHAT MAKES THE TRIBE SO SPECIAL?

Our vision for Tribal Tourist is simple. We believe that by bringing more travelers to Africa, local communities will benefit and in turn help protect our wildlife from poaching.

We spend all our free time in the outdoors and we are convinced that the more you explore, enjoy, and delight in nature, the more you’ll be driven to conserve its wondrous beauty and incredibly diversity. That feeling of absolute freedom, confidence, and clarity of mind that comes with spending time in the wild is what we’d like all our travelers to experience with us.
We’re a community of explorers who have made some wonderful friends and partners on our adventures throughout Africa. Our tribe thinks the way we do and feels equally passionate about protecting our wildlife, conserving their natural habitats, and supporting the communities who are guardians to both.

Any traveler who joins us on our adventures will find that we love to travel just as much – perhaps even more – than they do. We love taking new people along for the adventure of a lifetime, whether they prefer to do it in style or rough it in the bush. We know better than anyone that the world is made up of different kinds of travelers: some want to encounter big game, some want to dive the most colorful reefs, and some want to get active on surf boards, boats, or bicycles. We’re glad for this, as it means every trip we organise is something new and exciting.
While we’re out there, we’re always paying attention to our impact on the local environment and the communities it supports. We’re very aware of the ecological crisis the world facing in and we do our best to lighten our footprint wherever we go. In this way, our travelers are encouraged to do the same.

Protecting our wildlife
We are a tribe of wildlife warriors, partly because we know our wildlife doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world and partly because we realize the devastating effects poaching is having not only on our rhinos, but also our elephants, pangolin, and many other precious creatures who call Africa home.
Every partner we have in Africa is in some way connected to a wildlife protection programme. We hope we can instill this passion for wildlife with our travelers too, as their decision to visit Africa with us is contributing to the good fight. We are too proud of our vast natural heritage to let it slip through our fingertips and by bringing more visitors to experience it, this passion can rub off on others.

PAGE 2: RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL
We encourage our travelers to get out there, to leave the guidebooks behind and to connect with the soul of Africa. The soul of Africa resides in its people and its nature. For us to experience this connection with Africa for centuries to come, we have to travel lightly.

It is for this reason that Tribal Tourist only partners with a certain kind of tour operator in Africa. All our local partners are committed to protecting their homes – to look after their communities, to send their children to school, and to nurture the environment in order for it to flourish for future generations. These operators knew what environmentally and socially sustainable businesses were long before we invented the words for it. Choosing them to take you on an exhilarating safari or deep-sea dive gives them the means to continue their conservation work.

We can’t just extract. We have to put back.

Humans often come to Africa to take what they want. Many want to ride on the back of an elephant or play with a lion cub. We made a conscious decision not to include any wildlife experiences in our adventures that in any way contribute to animal abuse. We believe the wilderness and its inhabitants should remain just that – wild and free of a heavy human hand.

Come and share in the adventures Africa has to offer. Be exhilarated and amazed. But tread lightly.

In 2017 Tribal Tourist decided to give a portion of our profits to preserving and protecting the areas we so love taking our travelers to. The proceeds will be divided between three causes, all of which are close to our hearts.
